Resume Writing details the Work and Educational Experience of an Individual

Creating a professional image on paper is what writing a resume is all-about. In a page to perhaps two pages all of the education and work experiences that have been had by an individual can be laid out for a prospective employer to peruse.  Adding skills and talents to the resume content can help HR managers to review the talents that they are looking for but in resume writing there are some items that should be left out. An overview of the individual’s life and accomplishments a resume is expected to be a little exaggerated but that should not mean stretching the truth to include items that are untrue.

As a manager I once received a resume that went on about a person’s covert military and espionage career. An obvious lie the person had 12 years of experiences overseas listed for different assignments, missions and skills as highly trained solider but neglected to account for their limiting years of life. Being 18 years old the individual claimed to have a college degree in addition to be based in Germany and Japan for several years. The kicker that made me laugh was the sentence that claimed all missions were confidential and would be denied if I were to contact the military to verify the information. I gave the person credit for covering their tracks but had to think if these missions were so secret why were they on the resume in the first place.

Although the document was funny it was not a joke, and the person was looking to impress an employer, which was ironic as they were applying for a retail position in a mall. Needless to say the lies were obvious and the person did not get an interview. Even though the resume looked good it was not the truth and the person should have looked up how to make a resume before sitting down and penning the fiction that gave me a good laugh.
