Salt water pools are an excellent green addition to any home.  As with many green innovations they are expensive at first to install, but over time the energy you save adds up to more than the initial start up costs.  One of the biggest benefits of having a pool in your home is that you never have to buy chlorine.  The salt in the water creates chlorine.  New salt systems are virtually self sufficient.  They require almost no maintenance.

Salt water pool systems have excellent health benefits as well.  That type of water is better for your skin and even makes it softer versus chlorine pool which tends to dry out your skin.  It also does not turn your hair green as typical chlorine pools do.  When it comes to which type of pool is better for the environment, the pool comes out ahead of the game, but not by much.  No pool has been created that is absolutely safe for the environment.  This type of pool is slightly better though because they contain a natural ingredient to create chlorine instead of just putting in chlorine.  They are much safer for you family and pets however.  These pools have been used for many things.  They are commonly used in physical therapy since they make your body lighter.  They also are safer for your family because a human body floats much easier in salt water.  This added buoyancy is great for younger kids who are just learning to swim.

When considering a new pool the advantages of a salt water pool outweigh those of a chlorine pool.  They can be slightly more expensive to install versus chlorine pools, but the expense of maintaining it are less expensive than that of a chlorine pool.  These pools are safer for your family and have less of an effect on the environment than other pools.  Considering a safer, greener pool is an excellent idea if you are choosing to install a new pool for the summer time.
