Weird Ways To Survive Law School
Most articles will tell you that in order to survive the grueling law school, you must study, sacrifice your social life, take a lot of notes, and spend most of your time in the library. It is true that these practical tips will help you survive but rarely few talk about the weird and unusual ways to do that. The following tips may be unheard of but they’re just as practical as what many will tell you to do.
Not many law school students realize this but getting to class early is a must. It gets you front row seats and closer to your professor. Even though you have increased chances of getting called out by the professor for recitation, it’s better than getting distracted by your classmates who are too busy talking or tinkering with their smartphones. This usually happens when you stay in the back rows and get to see what everyone in front of you is doing.
Throughout your life as a student in law school, try to be around people who think like you. If you’re around people who are just as goal-oriented and driven as you, you get to enjoy law school a little bit more. It’s best that you find like-minded people in class so when one of you gets in trouble, you can cover each other’s backs. You can also study together and start discussions to develop your critical analysis and ability to see things from different vantages.
Don’t expect too much with your grades in law school either. Unlike college or high school, law school is no easy A. Only a few professors give A’s to their students. Most of them give B- to their students. Getting high grades is next to impossible in the School of Law even among the brightest students. But then again, don’t be too hard on yourself if you get low scores on tests. Find ways to better understand concepts like changing your studying habits, consulting your professor, or discussing it with your peers.
Lastly, look both ways not when crossing the street but whenever your professor asks the class a question. See if anyone else has an answer, if not and you believe you do, give it your best shot. If you get it right, you’ll have more confidence in yourself. If you don’t, remember the fourth rule of not being hard on yourself and instead see it as an opportunity to improve your learning.
All these tips may be weird ways to survive law school or distance learning law. But you can use them along conventional survival tips to reach your goal of becoming a lawyer.
